Shop Volunteer

Interested in volunteering at our NEW shop inside Dorset County Hospital? If you are 16 or over then you can! We're always looking for new volunteers to join our hardworking team. Please read below to see what exactly would be involved, if this sounds like something you would like to get involved with then drop us a message using our enquiry form on the volunteering page.

Role of Shop Volunteer

The Shop is open from 8.30am to 4.00pm Monday-Friday There are 3 shifts ie:

Early Shift:  8.00am to 10.00am , AM Shift:  10.00am to 1.00pm  and

PM Shift:  1.00pm to 4.15pm.

Weekend Shifts 2-5pm

ALL shifts have 2 volunteers working.

What's Involved

Full training will be given but below is a brief summary of what is involved:

Early Shift: Set up for opening involves; collection of keys, putting float in till, recording fridge temperatures, sorting newspapers and magazines, completing magazine returns.  Collecting, checking, dating, pricing and displaying sandwiches.

During the Shifts

Make sure all stock is replenished, Check there are plenty of items for hot drinks and the area is kept clean and tidy. Check any deliveries. Price up new stock, ensuring rotation of stock is always carried out.

Fill and Flush Coffee Machine.

PM Shift: Prepare float, cash up, empty coffee machine, prepare newspaper returns, empty bins.  Return Shop keys and Trolley pouch.

We would like volunteers to do a full range of duties. This would normally involve working on the till for half the shift and the other half replenishing stock and looking after customers etc.

New volunteers will always work with experienced volunteers until they are completely trained and feel confident.

All volunteers have a local induction with the manager on their first day. You will also need to attend a full induction progamme run by the hospital for all staff.

All volunteers are required to attend a 2 hour refresher training session annually.

New volunteers will start on the “As and When Rota” to see if they enjoy it. Then you can either stay on this rota or, if you wish, move to a regular slot either weekly or alternate weeks if a slot is available. The more flexible you can be on the days and times you can work the easier it will be to find you a regular slot.
