Ward Refurbishments

A total of £10,097 was raised, huge thanks to everyone involved!

As part of our on-going legacy to support dementia patients, the Friends purchased various items for the Memory Room in Barnes ward; these included a fridge and some dementia- friendly cutlery and bowls, making it easier for patients to eat their breakfast.  We also deliver 2 newspapers a day which helps the patients by helping them to discuss what is happening locally and further afield.

There have been extensive changes on the ward to make it more dementia-friendly e.g. all wards are colour co-ordinated and now have grip rails throughout    The nurses station area has been changed so patients and visitors can sit and talk or read. In the ward some beds now have fall alarms and there are large clocks with day and date; these were so helpful and we had such good feedback they were fitted throughout the hospital.   Blue toilet seats are  the best colour for patients with dementia so again these were fitted throughout the hospital.  All these things help make a patient's stay in hospital a little better and less confusing.
